music. gfx. life. I don't know what this is, I know that I sit in photoshop for hours each day, so I thought I would combine it with what I am listening to since my other love is music.

Finally.

Finally got my tix to see Of Montreal at the Zoo in March. Can't flipping wait.

Of Montreal are among my top 20 favourite artists in the last few years. Just love them. Kevin Barnes is amazing.

I love the whole psychedelic thing they have going on. Sort of vaudeville in some respects as well. So I guess that's why I'm so exciting about seeing them live. Just chilling listening to them is amazing. They are one of the artists, I believe create trippy music, just to trip you out.

Blah. most likely not. But yeah, I can't get over the fact that they never get airplay in Australia.

I will report on what the live show is like, just wanna see KB jumping around in tights woot.

Self Portrait

I met my husband like, 14 years ago, while working on community radio. He was the announcer (DJ) and I was his assistant, while I was training. Then I took over his program. LOL. I remember thinking he was the coolest thing. Mainly because of the black skinny jeans and the jane's addiction shirt, and the fact that he was on the radio and in a band, and played the bass. I still believe, that Bass Players are usually the best looking ones in a band.

I went on to work at other community radio stations, including one in Alice Springs, and Brisbane's 4ZZZ.

I miss doing radio. However, music is what bonds my dh and me. He introduced me to a world of music I had never heard. Including Sonic Youth, Jane's Addiction, The Pixies, Grant Lee Buffalo and lots of alternative Indie bands if I listed them all then I wouldn't know when to stop. And I introduced him to 60s/70s music like Neil Young, Pink Floyd, America etc. I don't think he ever wanted to hear Neil Young's Greatest Hits album again, since it was on repeat as we were going to sleep one night. And neither one of use could be bothered turning it off.

My hubby has Aspergers. He is totally different to me. He is quiet, patient, musical (guitar, bass, keyboard) nerdy, intelligent (to the extreme) while I am loud, extraverted, impatient and crazy. However, music has brought us together.

So much music has been inspirational in my life. I don't know how to explain the impact music has had on my life.

When I was a kid, my mother listened to Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Rodriguez, America, Ross Ryan and Lots of folk hippie music. My step dad listened to the likes of ACDC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, the Grateful dead. So all my life music has been there. I remember getting records for birthdays and christmas every year.

I remember the day I brought Blood Sugar Sex Magic by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and my step dad said it was crap and they wouldn't last. Now, he listens to them. Although I respect their music, it's not the kind of music I tend to listen to these days, typical kind of commercial crap. He still gives me crap about the music I listen to, but won't admit, that he likes alot of it. He listens to crappy music in my opinion. Mum on the other hand will admit to liking Iron and Wine, and Bon Iver, and some of the indie-folk music I've given to her. I must remember to give her Shearwater, as I know she will like them.

Anyway, I like to ramble. You will soon learn that.

BBQ Beats Review

Well we got free tickets from my niece and her bf for BBQ Beats Festival that was on New Years Day. So of course we went.

I was so tired, that we nearly didn't go, we only went to bed as the sun was peaking on New Years Eve, and then the sun came up and we couldn't sleep in the tent any longer. So both hubby and I got like 2 hours sleep max.

I decided that we would drive in, because of being tired. So I was the designated driver. Which didn't bother me much, since when we arrived and brought a drink it, it sent us back 10 bucks each.

8 bucks for a beer. 10 bucks for basically anything else. So I had no problem with not drinking much.

Despite the heat, it was humid, and the over priced drinks, it was a decent festival. Not massive crowds. And fairly relaxed. We set our selves up on the hill, by the main stage and basically stayed there most of the day/night.

The police presence was overwhelming, some poor dude who was just enjoying himself and not hurting anyone, just dancing hard and sweating like a hog, was escorted by the police from the venue. That kinda pissed me off. I have no problem with people popping a few pills to enhance their enjoyment, if anything, I was jealous that it wasn't me.

Anyway the lineup was good. The big draw for festival goers was Public Enemy. Hubby used to do breakdancing and was very much into scratching and rap 20 years ago, so he really peaked when Flavor Flav walked on stage in his skelteon suit. They actually performed a whole album (it takes a nation of millons to hold us back) and really teased the crowd. Wonderful theatrics and I really enjoyed seeing them. Never was a huge fan, repected their music, and have always thought they were a great hiphop/rap band. But always perferred Beastie Boys and to a somewhat extent NWA. But seriously they put on the best show. aiiiight.

Before Public Enemy, they had DJ Nu Mark (from Jurassic 5), who was a great DJ, mixing some great tunes, and scratching madly. Have to remember to see him again, as he really pumped the crowd.

Didn't get to see the whole Bag Raiders set since we were arriving while they were on stage. But what I did see, I was impressed. Great band they are.

For me the highlight was Van She, although they were one man down, the show was great. I was right up front while they were on, the only band I decided to go down to the mosh for. Not that it was much of a mosh.

Walter Meego were good as well. Although we decided to leave halfway through their set as the rain started setting in.

Bloody Sneaky Sound System cancelled. Shits me when they only announce this stuff on the day, esp when lots of peeps were only staying to see them.

m83

I recently have been listening to m83. Sort of remind me of My Bloody Valentine and early 90s shoegaze. Have some nice beats. Sort of like 80s Electronica/pop maybe, maybe a little bit of influence from the Psychedelic Furs? That's just a total guess. But it has some real dreamy vocals. I must admit I had never heard of m83 until I heard Graveyard Girl. And although they haven't broken the shores of Australia yet, I think this album should get a bit of airplay. I do know that I am really enjoying listening to "Saturdays = Youth"

I'm sure a lot of people are going to really like their pop electronica sounds. I think my favourite song on the album is Highway of Endless Dreams.

Bon Iver - Blood Bank

If you haven't heard of Justin Vernon by now, you must be sitting under a rock. His music is entrancing to say the least.

After hearing skinny love from "For Emma Forever Ago", I knew it was an album, I couldn't live without. In fact it could well be my favourite album of 2008.

Something about Vernon's music is intimate sort of Sam Beam like intimate. Wonderfully expressed. I am just loving his music and looking forward to the newest EP release (Jan 20th I believe), hopefully, I will be able to see that EP live.

He's playing here this month in Bris Vegas, and I am hoping to see him. Will just depend on whether, I can get the tickets, that I am so hopelessly trying to get.

Anyway, he's releasing a new EP this month, and this song is a wonderful example of why he is so entrancing.
